PhD Gordon Emmerson – Resource Therapy for the Treatment of Trauma (Workshop)
This workshop will provide both a general introduction to Re-
source Therapy (RT) and details on RT‘s specific techniques to
deal with trauma.
Understanding Psychological Trauma: Psychological trauma re-
sults from experiencing events too difficult to incorporate. The
Resource State (personality part) that experiences such an event
will take on the negative feelings associated with it. These feelings return whenever
that state becomes conscious.
Resource Therapy Intervention for Trauma:
1. Effects of Traumatized States: When a traumatized state holds consciousness, the
client may experience panic attacks, phobias, PTSD, anxieties, fear, worthlessness, or
feeling unlovable. Avoiding traumatized states can lead to addictions, OCD, anorexia,
bulimia, narcissism, compulsive shopping, and over-competitiveness.
2. Conscious Work: The RT intervention brings the traumatized state into conscious-
ness to be worked with directly.
3. Learning the past is over: It is important for the specific state that holds trauma to
learn the past is over and it is now safe and appreciated.
Resource Therapy: Resource Therapy (RT) encompasses interventions for various ca-
tegories, including Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, Personality Disorders, Dissociative
Identity Disorder, Eating Disorders, and Addictions. It is based on a unique theory, vie-
wing personality not as a homogenous whole but as a set of states (Resource States)
that, when healthy, act as resources for the individual. A detailed set of RT Actions
(techniques) are prescribed according to each of the eight RT diagnostic conditions.
